Friend! I’m so glad you’ve found my Substack. More than likely, you’ve popped over here from my Instagram or email newsletter. You might know me from a ministry I started, Risen Motherhood, that has now come to a beautiful end. Or, maybe somehow the Substack algorithms really do work, and you’ve found me through that. No matter what, I’m glad you’re here.
So what is this place?
It’s my personal writing home, where I share the vast majority of my work, designed to serve you, your family, and the church. If you’re not familiar with me, I’m an author (check out the books for adults and children here!), a poet (a large body of work can be found here), and a regular mom with a husband and three kids in central Iowa (yes, surrounded by cornfields).
My hope is to learn along side you about what it means to follow Jesus in this wild day and age we live in. Every thing I write, say, and share orbits around that. While it might not always be explicit, my hope is that my work will help you see your faith in a new way or name something you’ve always felt, but haven’t been able to put into words.
My main gig these days is writing poetry and children’s books. But I tend to be a person that loves creative freedom, so I do a lot of different things. This space is primarily where I share what doesn’t quite fit on Instagram or in a formal newsletter: a hub for my faith-based writing, poetry, and processing.
What do you offer here?
Over the years I’ve developed a cult-like following of my Monthly(ish) Newsletter, where I share what I’m thinking, reading, watching, listening and buying. It’s a lighthearted look at whole personhood, and as a free subscriber, that comes to you each time I push it out. In addition, you’ll receive:
More Poetry! For a long time IG was the only place I shared my poetry. By moving much of it to Substack, I’m able to share longer form and more thoughtful poems since I’m not trying to keep up with the IG algorithms. My hope is these poems will help name your experiences and also point you to the greater reality of the spiritual realm around us. Because I recognize not everyone will want poetry in their inbox, this is a section of my newsletter you can elect to receive or not. If you prefer NOT to receive it, just head to your settings in Substack and and unclick “Poetry.” Doesn’t bother me at all.
Insider News. You’ll be the first to hear about upcoming books, work, or collaborations before the public knows.
So why go paid?
Great question. Primarily, because it helps me be able to continue to share all my work for free to those that can’t afford it. Writing this newsletter and sharing poetry is a real job for me, and if my words encourage you or adds value to your life, consider becoming a paid subscriber. But it’s more than that. This space also gives me something rare: a small, invested community where I can process out loud.
Paid subscriptions allow me to write more personally, more privately, and more deeply—and I’d love for you to be apart of that. In addition, paid subscribers are the only ones that get access to The Lounge - a secret podcast just for paid subscribers and my deep dives.
What’s The Lounge Podcast?
Every month, I drop a private podcast where I spill all the behind-the-scenes tea — answering subscriber-only questions about writing, business, clothes, design, motherhood, books, creativity, theology, and everything in between. It’s like the free monthly newsletter on steroids with the real talk you don’t want to miss.
Exclusive Essays
A few times a year, I get on a kick and love doing a deep dive into a topic. For example, just last year I did wrote a tech-prep for kids guide, and wrote in depth about doubt in God and how to stay faithful.
If you want these, and/or want to support my free work, subscribing is easy, it’s just $7/month (or even cheaper at $60/annually!) As an artist, I believe in an ethos of paying people for their work, and paid subscribers are the ones that make it possible for me continue sharing my work for free, as well as put food on the table for my husband and three kids.
As I mentioned, I do a lot of different things. My other main gig is over at
where I help current and aspiring authors make their dream of writing a children’s picture book a reality. If that’s you, come on over!No matter what, I’m extremely glad you’re here. We’re going to have fun together!
