Hi there, I’m Laura. Welcome to the coolest crew on the Internet.
This space is a newsletter and community for me to share thoughts, recommendations, and most importantly MORE poetry with all of you. I’ve been writing on Instagram and in a traditional newsletter for years and years, and it’s here that I bring all of it together.
If you’re new, a bit about me. I’m an author, poet, entrepreneur, and I love writing about whole personhood and how normal people think about and live gospel-centered lives. I’m a big advocate for plain language for complex concepts and hope is to bring you closer to understanding your walk with God in daily through any interaction you have with my work.
What to expect here:
This is a reader-supported newsletter and it’s only though subscriptions that this publication is possible. Writing this newsletter and sharing poetry is a real job for me, and if my words encourage you or adds value to your life, consider becoming a paid subscriber. It’s one of the best ways to support the work I’m doing here. Subscribing is easy, it’s just $7/month (or even cheaper at $60/annually!) and it’s readers like you who allow me to continue to keep the lights on with no ads, sponsorships, or algorithms.
No matter what you choose, all subscribers receive:
The Monthly(ish) Newsletter - This is newsletter that started it all and over the years has grown a cult-like following. I’ll share what I’m reading, listening to, buying, and thinking about. It’s “whole-personhood” at it’s finest and yes, we will talk about everything from jeans to makeup to disability theology to the stock market.
More Poetry! For a long time IG was the only place I shared my poetry. By moving much of it to Substack, I’m able to share longer form and more thoughtful poems since I’m not trying to keep up with the IG algorithms. My hope is these poems will help you see something in a new way or put words to something you’ve always felt but haven’t been able to name. Because I recognize not everyone will want poetry in their inbox, this is a section of my newsletter you can elect to receive or not. If you’re only here for The Monthly(ish) Newsletter and prefer NOT to receive it, you can change your settings in Substack—I don’t mind at all.
Insider News. You’ll be the first to hear about upcoming books, work, or collaborations before the public knows.
So why go paid?
Great question. Primarily, because it helps me continue to share all my work for free to those that can’t afford it. In addition, as a paid subscriber, you’ll also gain access to The Lounge - a secret podcast just for paid subscribers and my exclusive Deep Dives.
What’s The Lounge Podcast?
Every month, I drop a private podcast where I spill all the behind-the-scenes tea — answering subscriber-only questions about writing, business, clothes, design, motherhood, books, creativity, theology, and everything in between. It’s like the free monthly newsletter on steroids with the real talk you don’t want to miss.
What are Deep Dives?
A few times a year, I get on a kick and love doing a deep dive into a topic. For example, just last year I did wrote a tech-prep for kids guide, and wrote in depth about doubt in God and how to stay faithful. These are extremely practical and helpful essays filled with links and recommendations that you can apply to your life immediately.
Subscribing is less than a cup of coffee per month at $7/month (or even cheaper at $60/annually!) and it gets you all sorts of great stuff—including my gratitude. As an artist, I believe in an ethos of paying people for their work, and paid subscribers are the ones that make it possible for me continue sharing my work for free, as well as put food on the table for my husband and three kids.
Going paid isn’t the right fit for everyone, and truly, no matter what, I’m just so glad you’re here.
About Me (The formal stuff.)
I write poetry, books (for both children and adults!), and create resources that explore the intersection of faith and everyday life—always with the hope of serving you, your family, and the church. Over the years, I’ve worn many creative hats, from designing wedding invitations to social media consulting to co-founding Risen Motherhood, a ministry that shared gospel-hope with moms around the world. While Risen Motherhood has now come to a close, its legacy lives on through the books we created: Risen Motherhood, Gospel Mom, and A Million Tiny Moments.
While I write and share poetry online (here and on Instagram), I also love writing for children. My children’s book titles include: Any Time, Any Place, Any Prayer, Like Me, A World Wonder, and the forthcoming Your Worth Never Wavers (9.16.2025). My children’s books have received children’s book of the year honors from Christianity Today, The Gospel Coalition, and the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA).
Out of a deep love for children’s literature, I launched The KidLit Lab—a space where I help current and aspiring authors write and publish books that children will return to again and again. If that’s something you’re dreaming of, just head over here!
